These careers allow you to actually follow your Sims to work and perform interactions throughout the work day with them.
Active Careers Active careers were brought into the game with The Sims 4: Get To Work expansion pack.

There are occasionally pop-ups while their away for you to choose how they’ll react to situations at work, and you can also pick from a list of pre-defined actions (away actions) for them to do while at work, like “work hard”, “make friends”, “leave early”, etc.
Rabbit hole/Standard Careers The majority of the careers in the game are rabbit hole careers, meaning your Sims disappear off their home lot during work hours and you don’t follow them to work. NOTE: The careers I have coded support two languages: Turkish and English. Moreover, among these “work from home missions”, there are some brand new events and you can carry out these new events at your house or retailer shop as well as some other venues that are appropriate for your career like Cafés, Bars, Nightclubs, Restaurants and such. You will execute the serving missions to get promoted in your career and gain Simoleons per order with the new careers that let you work from home.
